Betsy kling
Betsy Kling is “Cleveland’s Chief Meteorologist.” A Northeast Ohio native (Copley), she earned her Journalism degree from Bowling Green State University and completed her meteorology coursework with Mississippi State University.
Her career has taken her through Indiana and Florida before returning home to Cleveland in 2003. In 2008, she made history becoming Cleveland’s first female Chief Meteorologist. Betsy holds certifications from both the American Meteorological Society (AMS) and the National Weather Association (NWA). Beyond forecasting, Betsy serves on the AMS Board on Broadcast Meteorology and as Program Chair for the NWA Annual Meetings.
A 10-time Emmy Award winner, Betsy has been recognized for her work as a meteorologist, anchor, executive producer, and writer, including an Emmy for her news special featuring the Artemis mission. She’s also earned numerous Best in Ohio awards from the Press Club of Cleveland.
In 2018, she launched "Growing Curiosity: Girls in STEM," a program aimed at shining a light on women in science, technology, engineering, and math. The series, now called “Growing STEM,” airs weekly on 3News at 5 PM.
Outside of broadcasting, Betsy is passionate about weather education and community involvement. Her contributions have earned her notable recognition, including the Press Club’s Chuck Heaton Award in 2015 and multiple “Best of Cleveland” Weather Forecaster honors from the readers of Cleveland Magazine.
